The Hon Peter Ayton Leslie

PETER AYTON LESLIE, was born 17th September 1916 at Longreach Private Hospital, Aramac, Queensland, to Walter Cyril Landsborough Leslie and Louise Gertrude Ayton and he was the grandson of Peter Leslie and Sussana Mary Ann Sparke. He was educated at Coogee Preparatory School, and then enrolled at Scots College and then the University of Sydney.

Peter completed a Batchelor of Arts degree in 1938 and then went on to complete a Batchelor of Laws degree with honours, First Class in 1946. He married Marion Ida Johns, 19th July 1940 at St Stephens Church, Sydney.

He was a gunner with the University of Sydney Regiment Battery, 1939-40 and then enlisted at Randwick NSW in the 2nd A.I.F. 2 / 4 Field Regiment as a gunner. He saw service in the Middle East, New Guinea and Australia and was discharged in Sydney NSW, 1st February 1945.

He was called to the Bar, 8th March 1946, was a member of the Bar Council 1967-70, and then served with the Reading Committee and the Ethics Committee. He was appointed to the District Court 2nd February 1972 and served until his retirement, 23 July 1982.

He was Commodore of the Lane Cove 12ft Sailing and Skiff Club 1966-70, President of the North Sydney Boys High School P & C Association, 1956-58. His many publications include, Motor Vehicle Law in NSW [1955].

He died at the Mater Hospital Sydney, 11th March 1993 and is survived by his wife [died 1994] and his two sons and grand children.
